Mushroom & Black Olive Pizza

Today's pizza incorporates two of my favorite things to eat...black olives and mushrooms. Of the four pizzas I am making this week this one really had my name written all over it. I could eat mushrooms every day I love them so much and black olives are awesome on top of pizza. Back in our dating days whenever my husband and I went to get pizza after school we'd always get a pie with pepperoni and black olives, we even make it sometimes and it definitely brings me back.

This pizza is a perfect example of how pizza doesn't have to follow any rules or even any rhyme or reason. Take whatever it is you love and put it on top of a pizza. Have fun and be creative. That's the best part of pizza. It's day 3 of my giveaway so don't forget to enter for a chance to win my cookbook. There's over 50 recipes for pizzas, including a breakfast and a dessert pizza, sauce recipes and much more! Mushroom & Black Olive Pizza
Yield: 1 pizza pie
Prep Time: 15 minutes     I     Cook Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • Pizza Dough (homemade or store bought)
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce
  • 8 oz package of mushrooms (sliced)
  • 1/2 can black olives (sliced)
  • 6 oz grated mozzarella cheese

Preheat your oven to 450 degrees and start prepping the shell.

Grease whatever pan you plan to make your pizza in and place the dough inside. Use your fingertips to flatten and stretch out the dough so it is covering your entire pan. Once you have done this sprinkle a little cheese on top and pop the it in the oven.

What you're aiming to do here is to cook the dough slightly so it wont shrink later when you add the toppings on. This will also allow you to have a fully cooked dough without overcooking or drying out your toppings. Keep a close eye on the dough while you're are cooking the shell, if it starts to shrink you can take it out and stretch.

The shell is done when it no longer looks raw, just under cooked. It should be very light in color.

Ladle some sauce onto the shell and spread over the top of the shell stopping approximately a half inch from the edge to allow a crust to form.

Sprinkle the mozzarella over the top of the sauce covering the entire pizza and then layer the mushrooms on top. Next take the olives and top off the pie with your olive slices.

Place the pizza in the oven and cook for 8-10 minutes.

Doesn't this just look scrumptious?

That's it! Stayed tuned for another great pizza tomorrow and don't forget to enter the contest!
