Chocolate & Oat Cookie Bars

This is yet another one of my favorite treats from my childhood. It isn't quite a cookie or a blondie...it's almost as though you took the two and combined them to get this amazing treat. There's only a few ingredients and you can make this in a pinch since most of the ingredients are always on hand at home for most people.

It's always a crowd pleaser and the kind of dessert you definitely want to make for company because if you have them at home you will eat them!

Chocolate & Oat Cookie Bars
Yield: 3 dozen bars
Prep Time: 20 minutes     I     Cook Time: 25 minutes

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup quick cooking oats
  • 3/4 cup firm packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 softened butter
  • 1 can of sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup of chocolate chips
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and grease a 13x9 glass baking pan.

In a large mixing bowl mix the flour, oats, sugar and butter. Mix well and set aside 1 cup of the mixture. Taking the remaining mixture and press it into the bottom of the baking pan making sure it is evenly spread.

Bake for 10 minutes.

When you take it out of the oven pour the can of condensed milk over the top and cover with the chocolate chips. Then sprinkle the remaining flour mixture on top and put in the oven for 25 minutes or until the bars are lightly browned.

Try to resist temptation and serve once they have cooled a bit. Just one last picture for good measure...

Thanks for posting this, I do a cookie donation every month and I sometimes get tired of forming and baking them. I bake about a 12 dz of them. I have bookmarked this to make sometime in the fall for donation, when it is cooler out. Great post!

What a great recipe! Sounds like a great treat instead of the traditional cookie.
