Beer Bread

For those of you who have never had beer bread this is a definite must have in my book. It is a thick, dense, moist bread that is best eaten straight out of the oven with a smear of butter on top that will melt from the warmth of the bread. To add a visual in case you aren't convinced that you need to make this bread, check this out....
The recipe only calls for four ingredients and I am willing to bet that you have every one of them on hand at any given time. The only downside to the recipe is it take about 40 minutes to bake, but trust me, it is worth the wait.

Beer Bread
Yield: One loaf
Prep Time: 10 minutes     I     Bake Time: 40 minutes

Ingredients:
  • 3 cups of self-rising flour (I used regular, plus a teaspoon of baking powder)
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 1 beer, any kind (I used Miller High Life)
  • 2 tbs melted butter
Mix the dry ingredients in a bowl and then add the beer to the mix. The dough will bubble up for a few second as you mix it to incorporate the ingredients.

When the ingredients are well blended it should be fairly sticky, which is perfect. Grease a loaf pan and place the dough inside.

Pour the melted butter on top and pop it inside oven until a toothpick or knife comes out clean and the top is a nice golden brown.

Serve warm with a pat of butter.

Ohhhh... the "champagne of beers." I love it! I have a nice ginger beer by Hitachino that I bet would be awesome as a bread too.

Quite nice to cuddle up with a loaf of beer bread during a late August rainstorm. My personal favorite is incorporating a fruity beer such as the Ithaca Apricot Wheat. It contributes a subtle sweetness that can substitute for jam. Great post!
